Vera Gold Foundation fights rape, organises essay competition for schools in Surulere Vera Gold Foundation, a non-profit and non governmental organisation committed to eradicating rape and fostering a safer community, has organised an essay competition for school pupils in Surulere LGA, Lagos State.
The competition approved by Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board with the topic: ‘How to stay safe from rape and sexual assault’ was held at Obele-Odan School Hall, Surulere, with Adeniji Nursery & Primary School; Obele-Odan Primary School and Randle Primary School participating. At the end of the contest, Adeniji Nursery & Primary School came out first.
Speaking during the event, the Founder/CEO, Vera Gold Foundation, Mrs Vera Chika Osagiede, said counselings aimed at Improving humanity is the mission of the foundation.
According to her, “empowering our
community through education, awareness support to eliminate rape and empower both the youths and the elderly with the objective of fostering a safer environment are services we render to people.
A guest speaker on the occasion, Mrs Jennifer Eliogu ( UGOEZE ), a Nollywood actress, commended Vera Gold Foundation for its contributions towards the elimination of rape and sexual assault in Nigeria.
The foundation which also empowers people with skill acquisition for them to become self-reliant and fend for their families and have started a legal arm of Say No to Rape programme where they also represent victims in court for those who need the foundation’s assistance through www.veragoldfoundation.org
The CEO of the foundation stated that from year 2021 to date that her organisation has carried out some sensitisation programmes in some states in Nigeria such as Lagos, Imo,
Delta and a rally held in London respectively, as means of ending the menace of rape and sexual assualts in our society.
